Key Stage 3 English
In years 7, 8 and 9 pupils study a different genre every half term; each half term pupils will work on developing their reading ,writing, speaking and listening skills in response to a range of fiction and non-fiction texts. There is also at least one key task per half term to develop extended writing skills as well as analytical skills. We use a wide range of resources encapsulating both literary heritage and contemporary texts. Pupils are encouraged to read widely and participate in the department’s extra-curricular activities. Over the year all KS3 pupils will have the opportunity to work with our Poet in Residence. Over the year, all pupils will study at least: a unit of poetry, a novel/ collection of short stories, a play, a non-fiction/media unit. Spelling, punctuation and grammar are taught discretely as well as being embedded into the schemes of work.
