Sixth Form Life
At Cardinal Pole we have a high achieving Sixth Form that offers eighty places each year to students who we feel will benefit from the specialist education on offer.
As well as academic excellence, students in our Sixth Form benefit from small class sizes, personalised support in mentoring and work experience, a varied and exciting enrichment programme and a committed pastoral care system in which no student need feel unsupported in what is often a difficult stage in their life.
Teaching and Learning
All students benefit from a teaching ratio of one teacher to twelve students. This gives our students a far more personalised education than they would receive in most colleges or Sixth Forms. Teaching is of the highest standard and as a Science Specialist School we are able to offer ‘subject specialist teachers’ in Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Science Scholarships are awarded each year to students who have shown a particularly strong aptitude and commitment to the Sciences.
Pastoral Care
Supporting the outstanding teaching and learning in the classroom, students benefit from an excellent pastoral care system. All students will be placed in small tutorial groups.
Emphasis is on our students developing the maturity and social skills that will enable them to cope independently with growing into adulthood. However, trained tutors are always accessible to advise, support and inspire the young people in their care. It is a feature of our provision that students gain from one to one support in the often stressful process of applying to Universities, Colleges and Apprenticeships.
Enrichment
The school has a highly developed Enrichment Programme that includes participation in Duke of Edinburgh Awards Scheme, Business Enterprises courses, Film Making at the London College of Communication, Photography, Interior Design, Graphic Design, Music Technology, Music, Dance, Yoga, the ECDL computer course, Drama, Football, Basketball, Aerobics and the Envision Community Project.
These courses not only provide an outlet for the creative and physical energies of our students, they complement the subjects being studied in a dynamic and exciting way.
We want all our students to be well rounded individuals who at the end of their time at Cardinal Pole have something more to offer employers and Universities than academic success.
Extra Curricular Activities
Students at Cardinal Pole are encouraged to go on school trips, which have included skiing in Italy, visits to European Art Galleries, and study weeks in Rome. Alongside activities weeks in the English countryside our students have successfully represented Britain in the role of ‘Prime Minister’s Global Fellow’, spending six weeks in Brazil in that role.
All students will gain from our extensive work experience programme, which includes training and mentoring within the commercial and legal sectors with companies such as HSBCI, Fresh Fields, Clifford Chance and L’Occitaine.
All students are eligible to participate in our Aim Higher Programme which funds visits to Universities, summer schools within the higher education sector and ensures that future careers are linked to appropriate further study.
