Best Ever for 6th Form
Cardinal Pole Sixth Form students were celebrating with many other students across the country on Thursday 20th for the release of the A Level results.
The sixth form achieved some of its best results ever across both across the BTEC vocational and A level courses.
Graham Shurety, Head of Sixth Form, said, "It’s great that as we go into a year of celebrating our Golden Jubilee as a school we are also able to celebrate a great set of exam results, with our students able to progress on to study at top institutions around the country”
Some of the top performers of the sixth form include:
Lianne Lieu
Lianne achieved 3 A grades in Business Studies, Philosophy and Ethics and Sociology and will be taking up a place to study Business Management at Kings College London.
Lianne said,
“I was surprised. I found the Business paper hard and I came out of the exam feeling like I had let the teacher down as he had worked so hard for us. It feels great to have got the A grades”
What helped you the most - Being able to approach my teachers and arrange 1 on 1 time for support with them.
Advice for students
- Take you first year of study seriously. It make it easier to do well in the long run.
- Although you will get support from teacher, take your education into your own hands and be responsible for your success.
Declan Kiernan
Declan achieved three A grades in Maths, Physics and Chemistry. Declan plans to take up an industrial placement before embarking on a degree in Physics at university.
Declan said,
“I now know that watching Massachusetts Institute of Technology online video podcast really helped as well as good teachers. I’ve had some disappointments with module results in the past so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I’m extremely happy with my 3 A grades”.
What helped you the most - Attending the extra revision lessons especially in Maths. Its easy to spend hours on your own trying to figure something out but when you have a supportive teacher who can point you in the right direction it becomes a matter of minutes.
Advice for students -
- Use the internet and watch educational podcasts.
- Analyse past mark schemes to see where students made mistakes and also what the examiners are looking for
Veronica Charely
Veronica picked up 3 distinction top grades in BTEC Health and Social Diploma. She is starting a London Apprenticeship with medical Care practice as a Health Care Assistant for a year and will then go to university to start a social work degree.
“It was a lot of hard work and we would come in Wednesdays for extra lessons 4pm – 8pm. It was great that miss was willing to give us her time”.
What helped you the most - Support from teachers and a lot of hard work.
Advice for students -
- Have a passion and commitment to the subjects that you choose.
- Get on top of the work as early as possible. Don’t let it get on top of you.
