Introduction
Cardinal Pole Sixth Form is rapidly acquiring a reputation of excellence for delivering a high quality education to our students.
Based at our new building on Morning Lane, our Sixth Form which provides specialised classrooms containing state of the art IT facilities, a dedicated resources and study area and a Sixth Form ‘Team Room’ where seminars are held and one to one tuition takes place.
A large common room is also available to our students throughout the day.
At Cardinal Pole, students receive the high quality education they deserve. We expect all of our students to proceed onto prestigious University degree courses or into further vocational training of the highest order.
There are two different routes to success at the school.
The academic route offers a range of AS and A level courses. Students are expected to take four AS courses in year twelve, continuing into year thirteen with at least three subjects at A2 level.
The vocational route offers a range of B.T.E.C. courses at Extended National Diploma Level which are studied in a series of units over two years.
We also offer G.C.S.E. retakes in English Language and Mathematics.
Admissions Criteria
Students intending to study AS/A2 level subjects must have gained at
least six A*- C grades at GCSE including two B’s.
Science
Those wishing to study Science AS/A2 level must have gained at least a B in the Science subjects they wish to study and a B in Mathematics.
Maths
Those wishing to study Maths at AS/A2 level must have gained at least a B in Mathematics.
Humanities
For those wishing to study a Humanities subject at AS/A2 level it is expected that they have gained at least a GCSE at grade B in that subject or in English (literature or language).
ICT
ICT students will have to have gained a C at GCSE in ICT or a B in Maths. Students who apply without these grades will be invited for interview with the ICT department.
Art or Drama
To access AS/A2 Art or Drama you must have gained at least a C at GCSE in that subject or, if you have not studied the subject at GCSE, attend an audition for Drama and a portfolio interview for Art.
BTEC National Diploma Level Three
Those wishing to study BTEC National Diploma Level Three, must gain at least five A*- C grades at GCSE. For the BTEC National Diploma level 3 we will accept a Distinction from a level 2 BTEC Diploma as the equivalent of two GCSE A grades.
Maths or English Resits
Those wishing to re-sit Maths or English at GCSE must have gained at least a grade D at GCSE.
